At the age of three, Ronald contracted a deadly bacterial infection which severely impaired his circulatory system. The disease progressed and while it spared his life, led to the eventual amputation of the lower portion of both his arms and legs. He has never felt impaired by his amputations and he always maintains there is nothing he truly cannot accomplish when he sets his mind to it. He does, however, rely heavily on his prostheses and recognizes the importance of prosthetic care in order to maintain mobility and independence. His prostheses were provided in part through donations from local foundations and individuals who were sensitive to the plight of amputees in Venezuela. This sparked his interested in humanitarian efforts for amputees.
Ronald attended the Instituto Universitario de Marcandotecnia where he studied Business Administration with a focus on Human Resources. He personally understands the importance of prosthetic care and the difficulties which exist in his native Venezuela. His outgoing and compassionate personality, together with the desire to assist individuals with special needs, led him to be one of the early pioneers of the Nova ProFoundation, helping to develop the maiden project in Venezuela. Ronald enjoys the outdoors and oftentimes goes on hikes in the rural countryside, that is when he is not doing construction work or visiting newer amputees to provide words of hope and encouragement. He currently resides in Caracas and he works together with local prosthetic clinics and amputee groups to raise awareness and funding for projects in all of Venezuela.
